Are you a subcontractor working in the construction industry? Have you been filing your own tax returns and wondered if you are claiming for expenses correctly?

At Accrida, our friendly and professional staff can advise you on the expenses you may be able to claim working as a self employed subcontractor to maximise your tax rebate. The standard rate of CIS tax deducted is 20% so it may be that you have overpaid your taxes and are due a refund.

What is CIS Tax?

CIS tax is a tax that applies to anyone in the construction industry scheme. Under this scheme contractors deduct CIS from subcontractors and pay it to HMRC on the subcontractors behalf. This tax is paid in advance towards the subcontractor’s income tax and national insurance.

As a self employed subcontractor, you are required to file a self assessment tax return each year. On this tax return you are obliged to declare your income, expenses and the amount of CIS tax that has already been deducted from you.

You are then required to pay any additional tax due or in most of our clients cases, reclaim a refund.

The average refund our clients have received is £2871.18

If you are new to CIS, get in touch with one of our advisors who can explain to you how it all works and what we can do for you.
